Albany Medical Center is short staffed, almost daily, potentially jeopardizing patient care. As nurses, our job is to provide quality care to our patients. We stay beyond our shifts, come in on our days off, and do everything we can to continue to provide great care to our communities.

We are demanding that the Board of Directors at Albany Medical Center LISTEN TO THEIR NURSES. The following are excerpts from news coverage of a recent rally held by AMC RNs:

  • This is not just about the nurses, said Kathryn Dupuis, a nurse on the maternity ward whos been with Albany Med for 24 years. This affects the entire community. We want people to be able to go to Albany Med and get the kind of care we would want our families to get, and you cant do that without good staffing. – Albany Times Union
  • A sea of red shirts lined the New Scotland Avenue sidewalk outside the 766 bed facility as the New York State Nurses Association continued its call to increase the staff-to-patient ratios at the hospital, arguing patient care is being impacted. – WAMC Northeast Public Radio
  • Last year, Albany Med nurses voted to unionize. They wanted fair wages, a good retirement plan, a better benefits package, and they wanted their voices heard in regards to staffing. – News 10 ABC

THE ALBANY MEDICAL CENTER RETIREMENT PLAN

THE ALBANY MEDICAL CENTER RETIREMENT PLAN is a Defined Benefit Plan providing retirees with a predetermined monthly retirement benefit upon reaching a specific age. The retirement benefit paid to a retiree is typically calculated using a formula which often employs years of credited service under the plan and salary information. The retirement benefit is typically payable to the employee upon attainment of their normal retirement age for the remainder of his/her lifetime. Benefits under this type of plan are often referred to as accrued benefits. This type of plan does not maintain individual accounts for employees.

It is important to remember that under this type of plan, the Alternate Payee is typically not awarded a lump sum cash payment from the Plan. It is usually a requirement of the Plan that the amount awarded to the Alternate Payee be expressed in terms of a monthly benefit payable for either the lifetime of the Participant or the Alternate Payee.

Albany Med was a great place to work. Very welcoming and you become close with management and other employees. Super flexible and you will learn something new everyday.

Nothing special, poor training. The pay isnt that good. The computer system is a joke. Have to rely on tech support non stop. Coworkers are nice and helpful. Company kinda sucks.

It is the worst place you would work for. Discrimination and favoritism and long work hours. Dont ever work for this place management are the worst. Do yourself a favor and run for your life.

The hardest part of the job was feeling like there was not enough time in the day to get everything done. Most enjoyable part was feeling appreciated by patients.

Horrible management, treated orientation like hazing. Actively tried to ruin me because of my involvement with the union. RNs are expendable. Pay is substandard…lowest for 800 miles around
