Bay Oaks is a historic retirement residence in the heart of the City of Miami and just steps frm beautiful Biscayne Bay. Home to 30 seniors and a family of friends, volunteers, dedicated staff, beloved dogs, native butterflies and other wildlife, Bay Oaks is like no other assisted living residence.

Living at Bay Oaks provides residents with all the benefits of retiring in ones one bed & breakfast, the company of new friends and the fun of new experiences.

Each resident enjoys the comfort of their own, individually appointed room, fully furnished with antiques and heritage linens, just like a fine Bed & Breakfast. With its lush gardens and tropical orchard, porch rockers and tranquil breezeways, personalized service and exceptional dining , Bay Oaks provides residents with a truly exclusive senior living experience.

Bay Oaks residents are active and engaged in a variety of activities on-site and in town, including Bingo, tai chi, yoga, billiards, drawing and painting, cocktail hour, dancing, ding-a-longs, museum and theater excursions, afternoons at the beach, and lunch or dinner at local restaurants. Other community favorites include walks down to the Bay at Sunset, debating the news of the day, and walking the grounds which include our fruit orchard, rose garden, and many breezy greenways.

Since 1947 A Privilege To Be Of Service

Founded by Miami pioneering women in 1947, Bay Oaks has been exceeding expectations and setting the highest standard of service to seniors for 73 years.

Our unique residence was envisioned before Medicare was introduced or retirement planning was common when a group of strong, pioneering, civic oriented women decided to create a safety net to meet the needs of Miamis elderly.

Founding leadership formed the Miami chapter of the all-women Soroptomist Club to oversee the project and included such prominent professional women as Ethel Ernest Murrell, attorney, author, lecturer, and drafter of the Florida Married Womens Emancipation bill.

The Soroptomists founding Board President and Bay Oaks co-founder, Mary Sorenson Moore, was also a co-founder of The Miami Womans Club, the Dorsay Library, the Flagler Memorial Library, the Miami chapters of the YWCA, The American Red Cross, and The American Cancer Society.

Other Miami pioneers who helped lead Bay Oaks in its early days include Edna Stevens, Mildred T. Rhodes, Rosalind Garfunkel, Jane Natt, and Maryland B. Byrne, among others.

These Soroptomists funded and acquired approximately ten parcels of land steps from Biscayne Bay where they built Bay Oaks. This legacy of female governance has continued for over seven decades and makes this not for profit organization the oldest charity of its kind in South Florida.
