Best Small Camper Trailers For Couples In 2022
While considering the best travel trailers for a couple we also kept in mind things like lightweight towing characteristics.
We recognized that if you only need to sleep two people, that you can get away with a slightly smaller, and lighter travel trailer that can be pulled by a typical midsize SUV.
Of course, we also realize that a lot of couples love some extra elbow room.
So, we also made sure to include some larger models that might also need a full-size pickup truck to tow them.
Here are 6 of the most comfortable and luxurious camper trailers for a RVing couple:
- 2022 Coachmen Freedom Express LTZ 252RBS
- 2022 Forest River Rockwood Mini Lite 2506S
- 2022 Airstream Flying Cloud 23FB
- 2022 Coachmen Apex Tera 16T
- 2022 Cruiser RV Radiance R-25RK
- 2022 Dutchmen Coleman Rubicon 1608RB
Forest River Flagstaff E
The E19FBS isnt right for everybody. In fact, in most cases, I would recommend another unit because the Forest River targets a specific audience. These units are best for first-time RV buyers that want to enter the lifestyle but cannot afford the higher-tier units. The quality control isnt as good as some other brands, and the materials are often, but not always, lower quality or thinner than some of their counterparts. However it still makes our list as one of the best travel trailers for couples.
Floor plan
I love the design. Yes, it is short, so this is a game of sacrifices. It has an open floor plan, so it successfully keeps the unit from feeling claustrophobic even though it is only 20 long.
Storage
Minimal would be a good way to describe it. You do have several spots for storage, but none of it will add up to a comfortable full-time living level of storage. Keep that in mind if you want a seasonal unit rather than a weekend-camper.
The Bed
If the front of the unit is considered north, the queen bed is to that north. They size it at 60 X 80, so it is a residential queen rather than the commonly short-changed RV version. You do have some storage both above and below. The storage above the bed is netted and the lower storage is smaller than most under-bed storage compartments.
The Kitchen
The oven is great! Ive seen a lot of larger RVs that have ovens that cant fit much more than a tray of muffins. You have a bit more space with this campers oven.
The Bathroom
Advantages Of Class C Rv Living
Class C RVs are more spacious than they may appear. The over-cab sleeping area is great for extra guests. Theyre a great mix of Class A and B. Theyre easy to maneuver but still provide plenty of living space.
Similar to Class A RVs, this type of RV is easy to set up at a campground. If its raining when you arrive, you can get to work setting up inside without ever stepping out into the rain. As with other motorized RVs without a tow vehicle, you can leave quickly, as you wont need to hitch up.

Tips For Buying An Rv
There are several kind of RVs and campers, and Ill provide a quick introduction here.
Your first decision is whether to own an all-in-one motorhome or a tow-behind 5th wheel/travel trailer. Ive always loved the simplicity and security of a motorhome .
But if you already own and need a truck, then a camper you can pull behind makes lots of sense. Another advantage to towing is being able to unhitch and use the truck for local transportation once you reach your destination.
If you are going to pull behind, my sense is that 5th wheels are roomier and more stable to tow, but I claim no great expertise in this area.

The Coachman Clipper 17FQ is another lightweight option on our list of the top 5 best travel trailers for couples. We love this travel trailers floor plan for young couples because there is a lot of room to grow.

This Clippers floorplan is one of the few travel trailers under 21 feet that has both a living room and a bedroom space. When the Murphy bed is in day mode, youll love all of the extra floor space, allowing you to easily move around the inside of the camper.
Another great feature of the Clipper is the rear bathroom which spans the entire width of this small couples travel trailer. Not only is there a large shower stall, and ample bathroom storage, but the Clipper boasts one of the most expansive vanities weve seen. Your toothbrush and hairdryer are in no danger of rolling off the oversized vanity countertop.
Its also worth noting that although we consider this camper one of the best travel trailers for couples the dinette converts to a third sleeping space which would be perfect for a young child.
With the openness of the floor plan, ample storage, and dinette bed this camper is a great option for a young couple looking to purchase a travel trailer that can grow with their family.

Trailer Or Fifth Wheel
Both a trailer and a fifth wheel are towed by a vehicle, typically a truck but sometimes an SUV or a minivan. A trailer attaches to the tow vehicles rear bumper. The fifth wheel, with its distinctive front dome, attaches to a hitch mounted in the truck bed. Towable sizes range from about 13 feet to 41 feet.
Below are three main advantages to choosing a towable RV:
And, as with everything, there are some disadvantages to a towable RV. Here are three:

Disadvantages Of Travel Trailer Living
Travel trailers tend to be on the shorter side, which in turn means lower ceilings. Those who are tall may find themselves cramped. While some travel trailers do have adequate storage, many cant offer much.
When it comes to towing, travel trailers are a bit more fragile, especially in bad weather. Wind tends to push travel trailers around a bit more, leading to trailer sway. This swaying feeling can also be an issue when a large semi passes you. Anti-sway hitches can help with stability, but its difficult to eliminate sway entirely.
If Youre A Senior Couple
Ray and Tammy of The RV Lifestyle recently recommended a lightweight travel trailer for weekend vacationers who are empty nesters or recently retired. They also offer several suggestions for specific models.
But as weve said, your perfect RV depends on your lifestyle. Many seniors who go on month- or summer-long RV trips prefer the homey luxury of a Class A motorhome. Seniors who already own a large SUV or pickup truck also enjoy fifth wheels, which come with a surprising variety of floor plans and amenities.

Rv Types: Which Is Right For You And Your Partner
Lets review the basics. There are five general categories of RVs:
- Travel trailers can be towed behind hefty cars, vans, SUVs, or pickup trucks. Trailers, sometimes called campers, come in a variety of floor plans and sizes.
- Fifth-wheel trailers belong in a category of their own. They come in a variety of sizes and floorplans. These towable RVs have raised extensions that locks onto the rear of a pickup truck.
- Class A motorhomes look a lot like busses. Theyre the biggest RV style on the market, and theyre an all-in-one combo.
- Class B motorhomes also include the vehicle and living space. These nimble vehicles look just like a giant van.
- Class C motorhomes are perhaps the most common type of RV. They come in a variety of floorplans. Class C RVs include a living space and a motorized cab. If youve ever rented an RV, it was probably a Class C.
Youll Spend Even More Money Updating Your Rv’s Decor
Your taste in decor can differ greatly from RV designers, so you may be spending some dough upgrading the interior living space. This can be especially true if you buy used, but even new RVs can demand immediate upgrades to suit your taste.
RVer Charley Hannagan, whose home base is Pittsburgh, described the interior of her familys used 32-foot Jayco Precept Class A motorhome as looking like a 1970s old-age home.
It was awful she says. We spent about $2,000 to buy fabric to re-cover the furniture in fabric I liked, to buy melamine dishes that wont break on the road, organizational stuff and sheepskin covers for the front seats.
The Bakers redecorated, too. They replaced the mattress on the bed with one of better quality for $900. Also inside, they changed out televisions, curtains and blinds , added a home-grade refrigerator , and bought new recliners and table chairs .
Then theres the outside. What RVs are made of varies, but with the exceptions of the Class B vans and aluminum Airstream trailers , its generally not formed and welded metal like a car. Siding, whether aluminum or fiberglass or some other composite, is more common. That was the case for the Bakers, who paid north of $20,000 to have their entire unit resided and repainted.

Quarters Are Close In Your Rv
Even in the largest of motorhomes, your traveling companion is never more than a few feet away. If you require an abundance of space, privacy and solitude, the RV life might not be for you.
Some traveling partners sort it out by doing certain tasks laundry, grocery shopping solo.
Says Nancy Fasoldt: Honestly, we never found the closeness to be problematic. Others have told us they have. But we keep busy reading, writing, painting, bike riding, walking the dogs. And, if necessary, we can pull a curtain to hide behind. We seriously like each other most of the time, so its not hard to be that close.

The 2022 Dutchmen Coleman Rubicon 1608RB is another one of the best compact lightweight travel trailers for a couple who wants to be able to tow it without investing in a gas-guzzling full-size pickup truck.
Completely empty it only has a dry weight of just 3,880-pounds. Yet it still has enough cargo capacity of up to 980-pounds to let each of you bring all your essential items and camping gear.
The interior of the Dutchmen Coleman Rubicon 1608RB is cozy, without feeling cramped.
