How Is My Retirement Allowance Calculated
Your retirement allowance is determined by your age, years of creditable service, three year-average annual rate of compensation, and your group classification. The maximum retirement allowance is 80% of the high three-year average annual rate of compensation. Your age factor times the number of years of service determines this percentage. For Members who join the system after 4/2/12, a five-year average annual rate of compensation will be used to calculate their retirement. In addition, the age factor table for member who join the system after 4/2/12 will require you to work longer for the same or similar benefit.

These programs allow employees to set aside a portion of their paycheck tax-free to pay for expenses, including:
- dependent care
- medical and dental care, and
- work-related parking fees and mass transit.
The result is a reduction in your taxable income, which will give you an increase in your take-home pay.
- Annual Enrollment for Flexible Spending is every fall, with coverage effective on January 1.
- Enrollees retiring before the end of the plan year on December 31 may use their debit card up to their retirement date.
- After retirement, retirees have until the end of the plan year to submit paper claims for services they used before their retirement date.
- Please plan ahead when you enroll in Flexible Spending in the year that you retire to ensure you do not lose money.

Since October 2016, our main office has been in Hood Park, the original home of the New England dairy company H.P. Hood and Sons. Our building is conveniently located on the MBTA Orange line, between the Bunker Hill Community College and Sullivan Square stations.
Parking:
- Take a ticket upon entering the garage and make note of your entry time.
- Enter your ticket in the machine to exit.
- If your visit is under 3 hours, there is no charge and the gate will open.
Drop-off parking: If you are planning on only dropping off completed applications or other paperwork, there is a driveway in front of the south entrance that is available for short-term parking. If you are planning on parking longer than 10 minutes, please use either visitor or paid parking.
Accessible parking: The Hood Park lot has accessible parking near the north entrance to the building. There are additional street spaces across Hood Park Drive from the south entrance, between 500 Rutherford Ave and The Harvey.

Do I Get Any Interest On My Refund
If you voluntarily leave employment that began after January 1, 1984 and have less than 10 years of service, you will receive 3% interest. If you have over ten years of service, interest will be refunded to you at the regular interest rate, which is currently set at by the State for .01 %. Also, if you are removed or discharged, you will receive the regular interest rate regardless of the years of service.

In October 2012, political science professors Adam Bonica and Michael Woodruff of Stanford University attempted to determine the partisan outlook of state supreme court justices in their paper, “State Supreme Court Ideology and ‘New Style’ Judicial Campaigns.” A score above 0 indicated a more conservative-leaning ideology while scores below 0 were more liberal. The state Supreme Court of was given a campaign finance score , which was calculated for judges in October 2012. At that time, received a score of -0.44. Based on the justices selected, was the 11th most liberal court. The study was based on data from campaign contributions by judges themselves, the partisan leaning of contributors to the judges, orâin the absence of electionsâthe ideology of the appointing body . This study was not a definitive label of a justice but rather an academic gauge of various factors.

In 2020, Ballotpedia published , a study examining the partisan affiliation of all state supreme court justices in the country as of June 15, 2020.
The study presented Confidence Scores that represented our confidence in each justice’s degree of partisan affiliation, based on a variety of factors. This was not a measure of where a justice fell on the political or ideological spectrum, but rather a measure of how much confidence we had that a justice was or had been affiliated with a political party. To arrive at confidence scores we analyzed each justice’s past partisan activity by collecting data on campaign finance, past political positions, party registration history, as well as other factors. The five categories of Confidence Scores were:
- Strong Democrat
- Mild Republican
- Strong Republican
We used the Confidence Scores of each justice to develop a Court Balance Score, which attempted to show the balance among justices with Democratic, Republican, and Indeterminate Confidence Scores on a court. Courts with higher positive Court Balance Scores included justices with higher Republican Confidence Scores, while courts with lower negative Court Balance Scores included justices with higher Democratic Confidence Scores. Courts closest to zero either had justices with conflicting partisanship or justices with Indeterminate Confidence Scores.

The Cambridge Retirement System is one of 104 contributory retirement systems in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts. The Retirement System, governed by a five member board, is subject to the provisions of Massachusetts General Laws Chapter 32.
The CRS´s members are actively working for the City of Cambridge, Cambridge Housing Authority, Cambridge Public Health Commission and Cambridge Redevelopment Authority or are retired from one of the above entities. Membership in the Cambridge Retirement System is mandatory for nearly all half-time and full-time employees.
The Cambridge Retirement Office has resumed working our normal business hours. Staff members are now available from 8:30 am to 8:00 PM on Mondays, 8:30 am to 5:00 pm on Tuesday-Thursday and 8:30 am to 12:00 pm on Fridays. We are still encouraging all members to contact us by phone or email for most inquiries. This is almost always the fastest way to get any questions answered. Founded in 1692, the Massachusetts Supreme Judicial Court is the state’s and has seven judgeships. The chief of the court is , who was confirmed to the position on November 18, 2020. The court is the oldest continuously functioning appellate court in the Western Hemisphere. Originally called the Superior Court of Judicature, it was established in 1692. The court’s name was changed to its current one by the Massachusetts Constitution of 1780.

What Does Buy Back Mean
You may buy back any prior public service with the City of Everett or certain other service with the Commonwealth that was refunded or service in which retirement contributions were not withheld. You must buy back such service as an active member in order to have that time credited toward a retirement. Buyback requests must be submitted in writing and you will have to pay the appropriate contribution plus accumulated interest as determined by the Board.
