James Jay Rose woke up on the morning of Nov. 8 to his roommates packing in a panic. It was shortly after 9 a.m., and the entire town of Paradise had just been told to evacuate.

They didnt want to leave because this is where they live, and they want to stay there and have something to do with the protection of homes.

Potential Mental Health Facility In Paradise Runs Afoul With Residents
PARADISE More than 100 people filled the Paradise Town Council Chambers on Wednesday night to hear from a potential landlord who wants to put a mental health facility at Feather Canyon Gracious Retirement Living site.
Currently, the site which is behind the Feather River Hospital campus is an escrow. Despite it being said during the meeting, Adventist Health does not own Feather Canyon Retirement Center.
Adventist Healths Maureen Wisener said on Friday that the company doesnt own the building and is not involved in the sale.
Resident Diana Dawn Nellis-Siler, in a Facebook post to the group Say no to Feather Canyon, asserted that Gillion had told her that he is definitely planning to put a long-term mental health service, which may include a lockdown drug rehab at the site.
However, Mark Breckle, who said he was a landlord there on behalf of Guillion, spoke to residents in a two-hour meeting that was hosted by the town of Paradise but organized by residents, said at times it felt like he was getting his teeth kicked in and that mental health site was one of the options.
The other option was a single occupancy resident facility. He added that such a facility would be an opportunity for those who are working on the Paradise rebuild, like construction workers and Pacific Gas and Electric Co. workers. There are 100 beds on site, Breckle said.

California Fire Forces Senior Living Community Evacuations

All residents and staff from an Atria Senior Living community in Paradise, CA, were reported safe and accounted for Thursday during a wildfire that began in the morning and by the evening had swept across 20,000 acres, destroying up to 1,000 buildings and causing multiple injuries and fatalities, according to and local media accounts.
The so-called Camp Fire reportedly began around 6:30 a.m. local time and spread quickly to due strong winds no cause has been reported. By Thursday evening, containment was 0%.
Acting California Gov. Gavin Newsom declared a state of emergency for Butte County, the county sheriffs office issued a mandatory evacuation order for Paradise and nearby towns, and the National Weather Service issued a red flag warning, its highest alert, issued for weather events which may result in extreme fire behavior that will occur within 24 hours.
As many as 15,000 structures are threatened, the California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection said.
On its Facebook page on Thursday morning, Atria Paradise, which offers independent living, assisted living and memory care, posted that all residents had been taken to other Atria communities in the Sacramento, CA, area. Rest assured, we have made all the necessary preparations to keep our residents happy, comfortable, and most of all, safe, the post said.
