Lgbt Independent Living Homes

LGBTQ – Time for Retirement

Independent living homes for LGTB adults offer a similar lifestyle to the retirement villages. They are best suited for LGBT retirees who are looking for senior living complexes near them and are still independent, healthy, and active and are in a position to live in their own. Such communities present different accommodation options, which can include mobile or motor homes, condos, homes, and townhouses. Aged LGBT individuals in such cases can choose to live in a cooperative, rent, or own their living quarters.

The communities have age restrictions and may provide multiple amenities to LGBT adults like security, clubhouses, yard maintenance, gyms, and housekeeping. These types of residences appeal to members of the older generation who want to spend time and socialize with their peers during their golden years.

Residents who choose to live in LGBT independent living facilities do not need personal care support or skilled nursing services. When they reach a point where they need additional help, LGBT older adults relocate to a senior living community that will expertly handle their needs.

Calculate Your Net Worth

The first step in preparing for retirement, your goal, is knowing where you are today. To do that, you must know exactly how much money minus debt you have today.

The second step is estimating how much money, including housing, healthcare and other living expenses, youll need in retirement.

First, total all your assets, including money saved for emergencies, money in individual retirement accounts , company-sponsored retirement accounts or 403) and Health Savings Account or HSA and any other money and investments you have anywhere else.

Write your total assets down on a piece of paper.

Second, total all your liabilities and other debts, including money you owe friends and family, car loans, mortgage, home equity lines of credit on which youve drawn and own, student loans and any other money you owe anyone, including Uncle Sam.

Write your total debts or liabilities on the same piece of paper.

Then, subtract your total debts and liabilities from your total assets. If this numbers negative or very low, meaning less than 25 times your projected annual expenses in retirement, you have some savings and investing to do before you can reasonably and comfortably retire by age 65.

Palm Springs To Get Gay Retirement Development

Theres about to be a brand new boom in Palm Springs, California. And no, were not talking about an earthquake or explosion. We are referring to an innovative housing development for gay seniors called BOOM.

BOOM is the brainchild of Matthias Hollwich, a 40-year-old architect who wants to develop a wacky yet fun community for gay retirees. The new community, which hasnt been built yet but hopes to attract gay seniors from all over the country, will be moving forward in the near future. Overall, the community will cost somewhere in the ballpark of $250 million to develop.

In the last decade, the gay housing market has exploded, so the development of BOOM makes total and complete sense. However, there arent too many LGBT-oriented communities across the country. Many have been planned, including those in Santa Rosa, Oregon and Boston, but they have mostly failed before the first house was even built.

So, experts want to know if BOOM will be a total bust or if it will come through to fruition. Will we see an onslaught of gay retirees moving to the Palm Springs area specifically for this development? We might and well tell you why.

The developers of BOOM are approaching the gay retirement community a little differently. While developers of the failed gay retirement communities focused on quick sales, the developers of BOOM are planning every aspect of the project, including full-on workshops to make BOOM a way of life.

The developers plan to break ground this year.

Living Out In Palm Springsthe All

LGBTQ-focused senior housing projected to help seniors have safe affordable living

Living Out, an all-LGBTQ+ senior community in Palm Springs, will cater to renters rather than buyers when it opens in 2023. Prior to the pandemic shutdown in 2020, Los-Angeles based KOAR International offered a condominium price range of $600,000 to $900,000 for a spot in the 55+ resort-style community. But the pandemic changed that thinking.

If you look at the various active adult, independent living communities in the Coachella Valley, theyre virtually all rentals. Thats the direction of senior housing, says Loren Ostrow, CEO of Living Out, who adds the rental fees are not established yet, noting, we are anticipating that our pricing will be competitive with our other senior independent living communities in the desert like Segovia in Palm Desert.

Retirement Communities For Lgbt Seniors

Many Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender elders report serious concerns about aging and retirement, according to the nonprofit group Services & Advocacy for GLBT Elders .

For years, LGBT retirees have suffered indignities during their final years. For example, same-sex partners have been denied the opportunity to share the same room, staff members who personally object to homosexuality have treated LGBT elders insensitively, and finances and benefits normally given to heterosexual partners have been withheld from surviving same-sex partners. Many seniors feel they need to go back into the closet when they entered the senior care system.

The loneliness and isolation that can accompany aging is often compounded by discrimination and the fact the LGBT people are less likely to have children and may be ostracized by their families.

While the situation has improved in recent years, there is still a demand for supportive retirement communities for LGBT people. Here are the LGBT-focused retirement communities and homes that are currently operating in the United States.

Residential Neighborhoods

If you are active and independent, you have several options for owning your own home in an LGBT-centric residential development.

Gay Friendly Countries In Asia

International Living calls Vietnam the most accepting nation in Asia for LGBTQ individuals. This may be because Vietnam has never had bans on being gay. Also, they allow changes in gender on government paperwork. The largest LGBTQ community is in Ho Chi Minh City. There are also gay spas and saunas in the city. And while Ho Chi Minh City has the largest gay population, Hanoi still has plenty to do. With a slightly quieter vibe, Hanoi also has resources for the gay community, including an for the city.

Vietnam is a great place to explore and learn. Adventure lovers can travel to tropical forests and climb sand dunes in the desert. Historians will enjoy the architecture and ruins throughout the country. There are plenty of museums dedicated to the Vietnam War. Those who love to socialize will find plenty of bars, restaurants and clubs to enjoy in the larger cities. Or just enjoy a day relaxing at one of the countrys national parks.

Thailand has long been a safe place to travel for the LGBTQ community, due to the countrys Buddhist beliefs. LGBTQ individuals are allowed to serve in the military. Thailand has been referred to as the gay capital of Asia, making it one of the top gay friendly countries.

Thailand also has a large expat population due to location, tolerance and a lower cost of living. But while being gay in Thailand isnt illegal, it should be noted that same-sex marriage cant be legally registered with the Thai government.
