Vanderburgh County Salary Ordinance

The Vanderburgh County Salary Ordinance is approved by the County Council at their first meeting of each year. According to I.C. 36-2-3-7, I.C. 36-2-5-11 and I.C. 6-1.1-17-5, the Vanderburgh County Council adopts an ordinance fixing the compensation of all county offices for the calendar year.

The County Council also establishes the “Vanderburgh County Personnel Administration Committee” to oversee job classification maintenance procedures, review County wage and salary policies, and make recommendations for improving public administration operations for the County.

Benefits
Vanderburgh County provides medical group health insurance and life insurance for elected officials and full-time County employees. The County Auditor manages these benefits for all eligible County employees with the exception of the life insurance policies for the Vanderburgh County Sheriff’s deputies and the county Teamsters employees. Vanderburgh County currently offers Anthem health plans, a dental plan, vision plan and life insurance for those employees that are eligible.

Indiana Perf Opens New Customer Service Center

PERF is opening a $2 million customer service center to better assist the more t han 200,000 state and local government workers and retirees who are beneficiaries of the $10.5 billion retirement fund. The fund pays out $35 million in retirement benefits each month, according to an Indianapolis Star report.

The new center allows pensioners to walk in and meet with one of a dozen retirement counselors, who can help them make decisions about their pensions. They can also get help here if they are having trouble getting retirement benefits. To help finance the new center, PERF is selling the building next door, which has been appraised at $1.3 million.

In addition to the fresh coat of paint the service center got a new, stately logo with a Greek pillar standing by the words: PERF Indiana. Theyve adopted a motto: Funding your future. This was all part of a $95,000 public relations campaign kicked off by PERF to launch the new customer service center and redesign its logo and Internet site in an effort to revamp the funds image.

The road to recovery may be a long one. In the past couple of years, PERF has seen a former executive put behind bars and two former employees implicated in separate crimes . As December 2003 drew to a close, the funds former chief benefits officer , Walter Kevin Scott was sentenced to 10 years in prison for embezzling more than $600,000 from a former employer and misusing another persons Social Security number .

Indiana Public Retirement System is a U.S.-based pension fund responsible for the pension assets for public employees in the state of Indiana. INPRS is among the largest 100 pension funds in the United States, with $48.910 billion in actuarial accrued liabilities and $37.729 billion in actuarial assets as of June 30, 2017. The fund administers and manages several pension funds in the State of Indiana, the two largest of which are the Indiana State Teachers Retirement Fund and the Indiana Public Employees Retirement Fund. The others are the 1977 Police Officers and Firefighters Retirement Fund the Judges Retirement System the Excise, Gaming, and Conservation Officers Retirement Fund the Prosecuting Attorneys Retirement Fund the Legislators Defined Benefit Fund and the Legislators Defined Contribution Fund. All faculty and staff who receive a regular paycheck are eligible to contribute voluntarily to the Purdue University 403 Voluntary Retirement Savings plan and/or the Purdue University 457 Deferred Compensation plan. Contributions can be made to these plans by designating a percent of gross pay from 1 percent to 85 percent. Effective April 1, 2005, a new Term Life and Accidental Death and Dismemberment Insurance policy will be carried through MetLife on all eligible Vanderburgh County employees.

Vanderburgh County’s Flexible Benefit Plan is administered by American Family Life and Casualty . This plan allows employees’ insurance premiums to be deducted from their paychecks before taxes are figured.

Once you choose to participate in the flex program, you will be locked into the agreement for one year. This means that you can only drop your insurance during Vanderburgh County’s open enrollment period.

Not all insurance premiums qualify as a pre-tax deduction. Most health insurance premiums will qualify.
