How The Neighborhood Model In Memory Care Gives Seniors Higher
It can be tough finding the right dementia-friendly community for your loved one. It can be even tougher to find the right type of style of memory care that will fit their unique needs. Ordinary senior living communities may not be the most accommodating with their style of care.
The neighborhood model of memory care is a dementia-friendly style of care that emphasizes community and empowers seniors with dementia to live self-directed lives.
Why Should You Sell Your House Now

There are a number of reasons why now is the best time to sell your house:
Buyer demand is up: Peoples lifestyles have changed a lot since the COVID-19 pandemic. Theyre looking for their own space, may work from home, or may want to own property. With prices only expected to increase, everyone is trying to buy now.
Mortgage rates are low: Mortgage rates have been historically low for the past several years, and set some record lows during the pandemic. While rates are starting to climb, theyre still extremely reasonable. Buyers are looking to lock in a low rate and buy a home now, before rates increase.
Inventory issues: Supply chain issues have made it harder for new-construction homes to be built affordably and in a timely manner. This has forced buyers to look towards existing homes during their house hunt. With fewer houses for sale, prices are going up because of simple supply and demand.

How To Prepare To Sell Your House For The Best Price
Hire the right realtor: A well-respected real estate agent will make your home-selling process easier and maximize your return. A good realtor will know the latest market trends, and will be able to market your home so it sells quickly.
Know your homes value: After living in your house for a long time, its understandable that you might not be aware of its current value, especially in todays market. Work with your realtor to come up with a price that will generate a lot of interest, but is in line with the market.
Consider repairs/replacements: The age of things like a homes roof, HVAC system and appliances are important to homebuyers. If these items are old or in need of work, consider doing some minor repairs to extend their life or even replacing them to make your home listing more enticing.
Depersonalize living spaces: You may be proud of your collection of artwork and knickknacks, but they could deter potential buyers. Keep your spaces gender-neutral so it appeals to all buyers.
Refresh your homes interior/exterior: If youve lived in your home for a long time, fresh coats of neutral paint, both inside and outside, can go a long way toward increasing its appeal, and are a relatively inexpensive improvement. Consider adding some fresh plants outside for added curb appeal.
What Are Activities Of Daily Living
Your ability to take care of your personal needs is a critical factor in your independence. Activities of daily living are the regular tasks you do to keep yourself mentally and physically healthy, including bathing, grooming, brushing your teeth, dressing, and using the toilet. This category of self-care also includes other essential needs like regular nutrition and the ability to move freely within your home.
Closely related are instrumental activities of daily living, which arent essential for living, but significantly affect your quality of life. These include responsibilities like cooking, housekeeping, laundry, managing your money, and securing transportation to maintain a functional lifestyle .

Benefits Of A Dementia
Neighborhood model communities have a number of design elements to make life easier for their community members. When communities are designed to be dementia-friendly, they provide specific features and benefits:
- Surroundings designed to provide a sense of familiarity: Memory care neighborhoods are designed to feel recognizable and familiar to their seniors. Being able to recognize their surroundings helps people with dementia and Alzheimers disease feel less anxious. This also aids in their ability to create individual routines for themselves.
- Lets seniors live self-directed lives: Seniors are able to create their own routines. They get up in the morning when they want to, decide if they want to eat alone or with a group of people, and get to decide what activities they are going to fill out their day with. While they are still able to receive care if needed, having the freedom to make decisions on how their day unfolds supports their needs as they age and provides a sense of dignity.
- Outdoor spaces give extra independence: Accessible outdoor spaces have a number of benefits for those with dementia or Alzheimers. Time spent outdoors can lower stress levels, reduce anxiety and provide essential vitamin D. Lakewood community members are able to enjoy our beautiful gardens when accompanied by a family or team member.
