Lawyers For Warriors Raises Over $175000 To Lift Local Heroes
Veterans Legal Institute proudly announces its annual fundraising event, Lawyers for Warriors, raised over $175,000 to serve Veterans in need. Military service changes a life forever, and generous supporters made sure pro bono legal services will be accessible for homeless and low-income Veterans. The hybrid virtual-in person event was held at 5:30 pm on November 8, 2021 and featured notable speakers and inspiring testimonials. All were a true reflection of the commitment to serve heroes in our communities. Wright Ford Young & Co. continued as the Title Sponsor. Special messages included Medal of Honor Recipient Jack H. Jacobs. Honorees included Law Firm of the Year Sheppard Mullin, Veteran Advocate of the Year Sheila-Marie Finkelstein, Community Partner of the Year Orange County Community Foundation, Veteran of the Year Andrea Bird-Steiner, and Attorney of the Year Jeff Roberts.

Military And Veterans Legal Assistance Program
The Military Legal Assistance Program, now a part of the Georgia Legal Services Program, assists service members and veterans by connecting them to State Bar members who are willing to provide free or reduced-fee legal services.
Service members and veterans often have legal needs in their personal lives and specific to their military service. They also face financial issues and other civil law matters resulting from the sacrifices made in military life. Depending on eligibility, clients will be connected to a lawyer in their geographic area with expertise in their area of need.
Those who are eligible for the program include: active service members, including reservist and National Guard members, rank E-5 or below all service members with issues related to deployment military retirees and 100% disabled veterans facing a financial hardship that prevent them from being able to pay an attorneys full fee and veterans seeking assistance with service-connected disability or other VA benefits.

Among the many novel features of the 2016 presidential election campaign is the increasingly visible participation of former military officers in the political process. Below is a brief primer on the legal status of retired service members, and the statutes and rules which govern their participation in politics.
In the first presidential debate, Donald Trump, in an exchange with Hillary Clinton over national security, highlighted the 200 . . . admirals and generals endorsed me to lead this country. Earlier last month, the Trump campaign unveiled a letter of support signed by 88 former officers of the armed forces. Hillary Clinton responded with a list of 95 retired generals and flag officers. These endorsements followed high-profile speeches by Army Lieutenant General Michael Flynn and Marine Corps General John Allen at the Republican National Convention and Democratic National Convention, respectively.
Apart from the wisdom or prudence of retired military participation in politics, former members of the armed services occupy a legal status somewhat distinct from that of ordinary citizens. Even as retirees, they remain bound by codes of military behavior that restrict the political participation of service members.
Its therefore unlikely that retired officers political speech, even if personally offensive to named officeholders, will result in the referral of charges and court-martial. So General Flynn and General Allen can rest easy on that score.

NVLSP’s Lawyers Serving Warriors® program offers pro bono legal help with disability issues to veterans from all eras. Our current pro bono initiatives are to assist veterans with the following types of disability claims:

Applications to Boards for Correction of Military Records for veterans who were wrongfully discharged for personality disorder or adjustment disorder

In the past, the Lawyers Serving Warriors® program assisted veterans who served in Iraq and Afghanistan facing administrative separation or pursuing a claim with the VA for disability compensation. Free Military Legal Assistance
If you need to write your will, are considering signing a lease, or need a power of attorney or notarized signature then you need legal assistance, and best of all military service members and their families have access to legal assistance, absolutely free!Veterans are not eligible for these services. Generally, legal assistance is provided to the following groups:
- All active duty military ,
- Reservists released from active duty, after serving 30 days or more,
- Retirees
- Federal civilian employees and their dependents are also entitled to legal assistance in certain circumstances.
Legal assistance is provided based upon available resources and personnel.
Military Lawyers are part of the Judge Advocate General Corps . JAGs can offer help in legal and non-legal matters like contract law, immigration law, divorce, wills, notary services, etc.
