How Quality Of Life Can Improve In A Memory Care Community
When it comes to the care of your loved ones, its important to consider not only their physical care but also mental and emotional care. Some older adults experience Alzheimers disease, dementia, or other conditions that impact cognitive performance. According to the Alzheimers Association, the number of people with Alzheimers dementia aged 65 and older could exceed 12 million by 2050. Memory care is an important aspect of caring for older adults with Alzheimers disease or other types of cognitive impairment common with advancing age.
Sleep Recommendations For Older Adults
The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention recommends that adults 65 years of age or older get between 7 and 8 hours of sleep each night. However, it is important to understand that individual sleep needs may vary based on overall health and quality of sleep. Some older adults may need more than 8 hours of sleep if they are not getting enough quality sleep or have special health needs. Other older adults may feel wholly refreshed after only 6 hours of sleep.
How To Improve Quality Of Sleep
If you or another older adult in your life experiences sleep problems, here are some tips that may help.
- Do not lie in bed for too long attempting to fall asleep. After 30 minutes of tryingand failingto fall asleep, get up and go to a separate room of your home. Engage in a relaxing activity such as listening to music or reading. When you feel sleepiness start to set in, go back to bed and try to fall asleep once more.
- Do not take naps longer than 20 minutes.
- Avoid drinking caffeine at least 8 hours before bedtime.
- Go to bed at the same time every day and maintain the same waking time.
- Try to be active and get exposure to natural light during the day. This will help regulate your internal clock.
- Avoid alcohol and nicotine in the evening.
- Talk to your doctor about any medications youre taking and whether they interfere with your sleep quality. Certain drugs may disrupt sleep, including cardiovascular drugs, antidepressants, and beta-blockers.
At Elder Care Alliance, we work hard to create an atmosphere conducive to good sleep at night. If any of our residents struggle to get quality sleep, we offer customized care to try to help.

My husband and I toured here when we were trying to find a place to live and we thought maybe wed like it but when we went to take a tour, it seemed like the people that were there needed more help than what we did. However, from what we saw, they were keeping everything very clean. They have several levels of care available depending on what you need. They showed us around the whole place and showed us the areas where people needed the most care and then we went to the area where people needed the less care and they just really seemed to care for everyone. Just from what we could tell, theyre doing a very good job.
Considering the community is far away and it was not as nice looking, this was not the right fit. From the outside it looked like a dungeon but when you got into the building it looked nice. I noticed that it seemed crowded and I was not connecting with the atmosphere.
My mother has been recently transferred into the memory care unit at this community and so far I have been pleased with the care she has been receiving. The staff are very encouraging on helping her improve her nutrition and make sure to spend as much one on one time with her as they can. I also notice that every time I go to visit the facility is very cleaned and well maintained.
Seemed very nice, but I felt it would not be a good “cultural fit” for my parents.
A wonderful place for care, but they do not have 2-bedroom accommodations

Opportunities For Movement And Learning
There are always new opportunities to stay active and keep the mind sharp in an Elder Care Alliance assisted living community. Fitness activities are designed to meet participants fitness levels and increase muscle strength and mobility. Classes and events are also available to stimulate the mind and provide entertainment.
Intellectual stimulation is essential for older adults. Without it, the mind could decline more rapidly. With it, mental faculties tend to remain sharper. Therefore, lifelong learning should be an important goal for every older adult.
Program Details / Pros & Cons
The Elderlife Line of Credit is a line of credit, so it works the same way a credit card does. A loan is approved for a total amount, but borrowers can draw on funds as needed and only pay interest on the amount used. Thus, a reasonably strong credit score is required for approval for a single borrower. However, the loan is also designed to allow multiple co-borrowers to share the cost of paying for the older adults care. Having multiple co-borrowers lessens the need for a strong credit score from any borrower since multiple individuals share the risk. The more co-borrowers, the easier it is to be approved, even if one co-borrower has poor credit. These loans also have a speedy approval process.
The most significant drawback of this option is the loans interest rate. The interest rate might be high, but it is very reasonable compared to a credit card or personal loan. Loans can be repaid at any time without penalty as an incentive for the older adult moving into their community.

Benefit Details / Repayment Table

Most loans are provided as a line of credit but, in some circumstances, can be provided as a lump sum. Typical credit lines are from $20,000 to $30,000. Loan payments are made directly from the account to the care providers, including home care, assisted living, Alzheimers residences, skilled nursing homes, and even adult daycare providers.
These loans are intended as a bridge until an alternative funding source becomes available, such as selling a home or receiving a VA pension. Therefore, the monthly payments are structured to be very low.
