Oph Acquired Mount Pleasant Retirement Village In Monroe

In 1949, the United Presbyterian Church of North America recommended to the Second Synod that 10 acres of land along Britton Road in Monroe be purchased with the intention of building a retirement home there. Monroe was deemed the ideal location because it was close to medical care, the amenities of Middletown, and Mount Pleasant, the oldest church in the Synod.

In 1951, Rev. William Paxton of College Corner made the first major gift to the building fund when he donated the proceeds from selling 107 acres of farmland. Construction began in 1952 with dozens of volunteers gathering in Mount Pleasant Church to coordinate their efforts. Over a two-week period, cots served as beds, church women served over 600 meals, and almost 4,000 hours of work were donated to building Paxton Hall and the first cottage.

The Middletown Journal reported on the construction process on August 7, 1952. Scorching sun dimmed neither the enthusiasm nor the work of more than 20 volunteers who began construction this week on the new Mount Pleasant Home for the aged. You cant tell the preachers from the laymen. All are garbed in work clothes and all are busy hammering away, sawing lumber and placing completed frames in position. Every single person on the construction job is a volunteer.

The facility was very nice and I heard great things about them. They were kind of cagey about answering my questions about the process for medicaid which is why we went with another facility.

They are very good and helpful . Any questions I have are answered in the same day. The food is good not as many choices as in Independent Living. I would recommended them to anyone. Room sizes are large. They have a balcony on the second floor and a courtyard on the first floor for outdoor space. They have been doing a good job with the Covid -19.

If you are a full pay resident I assume your treatment and surroundings are better. The area for Medicaid seniors on the second floor above the rehab facility is not good. The nursing staff are overworked. Just passing medications took the only nurse off of her work on the evening shift. It was overcrowded and the patients were often treated rudely. If one patient needed 2 people to help them, again it would take the only other staff member on the floor.

Great, they are just great, In AL, there 2 ladies over 100 yrs old, that shows how great they are, I did not get to see their memory care. I just dropped in, 2 floors of memory care, they have their own PT there, a lot of in house care available, they have cottages, itr is huge, Church on premises.

THE NURSING STAFF WAS AMAZING BUT IF YOU NEED PHYSICAL THERAPY PETE IS NOT THE ONE… HE GAVE UP ON MY MOM WHO HAS DEMENTIA. I HAD TO LEAVE WORK EARLY COME AN MEET HIM AND SHOW HIM HOW SHE DOES WHAT I ASK HER TOO.. SO YOU WOULD HAVE THOUGHT HE WOULD HAVE WENT TO THERE MEMORY CARE UNIT AND ASKED 1 OF THE NURSES THERE HOW DOES SHE GET THEM TO DO WHAT THEY ASK OF THEM. BUT NO HE JUST GAVE UP ONHER SENT HER HOME THAT SAME DAY I BROUGHT HER HOME SHE WAS WALKING AND HAS BEEN DOING GREAT HE WILL PROBABLY WILL SAY IT THE DEMENTIA BUT I GOT HER TO WALK AND STAND IN THEIR FACILITY….WOULD NEVER RECOMMEND HIS SERVICES TO ANYONE. AND WHEN I CALL TO SPEAK TO STAFF ABOUT HIM AND MAKE A COMPLIANT I GET TRANSFERRED BY TORI TO NURSING STATION JUST RINGS AND RINGS
