About The Staff At The Redwoods
Every member of our skilled and incredibly dedicated staff is an integral part of our community, helping to make it welcoming, caring and inclusive for all our residents.
Staff and residents share special relationships, which we understand are different from those generally found at most other retirement communities and senior health care facilities. Staff members at The Redwoods are part of our community family. They take pride in assisting, serving and taking care of our residents in a professional manner, but they also take the time to get to know residents on a more personal level.
More than 40 percent of our staff has worked at The Redwoods for more than 10 years. That’s an impressive statistic in our field and we believe the close bonds our staff develops with residents is the primary reason for this longevity.

Hope For African Children
The Keneth Kiyija Task Force of the church arranged for Keneth Kiyija of Uganda to come to the Bay Area for life-saving heart surgery in 2008. Following his recovery and return to Uganda, we encouraged his founding of Hope for African Children to improve the lives of AIDS orphans in his country. From small beginningspassing out school supplies and toothbrushesHAC now provides school uniforms and tuition for scores of village children and promotes family self-sufficiency through animal husbandry and handcraft projects.
The Redwoods Retirement Community

Mill Valley Community Church was a prime mover in the visioning and building of The Redwoods. Sensing the need for senior housing in the changing community of Mill Valley back in the 1960s, members of the church took a leading role in planning the community and procuring financing. In 1972, the ten acre campus opened. Today, The Redwoods has become one of the leading communities for seniors in the Bay Area, and offers senior residents myriad activities. The Community Church has maintained a long-standing relationship to the community, and has in the past years provided staff leadership for the weekly Progressive Christianity group, as well as staffing occasional services on Christmas Eve and Ash Wednesday. In addition, several members of the congregation serve on the board of The Redwoods, and several residents of the community are participating members of Community Church.

MILL VALLEY, Calif. Ziegler has arranged $23.6 million in bond financing for The Redwoods, a nonprofit continuing care retirement community in Mill Valley, a suburb of San Francisco.
The Redwoods features 148 independent living units, 130 assisted living units and a 58-bed skilled nursing facility.

While federally taxable, the bonds were issued through the California Municipal Finance Authority to allow for exemption from State of California income tax. The bonds amortize over a 15-year period, which is eight years shorter than the maturity on the existing 2013 bonds, and carry a bond yield of 2.9 percent. The bonds were issued with a 10-year par call.

Can The Redwoods Accommodate Residents With Memory Problems
As people age, some may experience forgetfulness and memory issues. For most people this is not a concern. However, because The Redwoods is a very open ten-acre campus with many exits and all the apartments have both internal and external doors, it is not a safe place for someone who presents a wander risk.

What Is The Difference Between Independent And Assisted Living

The Headlands Independent Living Apartments at The Redwoods are more strictly a tenant/landlord relationship wherein the rent does not include food, laundry or housekeeping services. However, meals and housekeeping may be purchased for an additional fee. The biggest difference is that Independent Living residents do NOT submit any medical records upon applying and therefore do not have access to our Nurse’s office instead, Independent Living residents would need to hire a private caregiver for any personal care/support needs.
Our Creekside Assisted Living Apartments are part of our Assisted Living Program and include a 24/7 supervising nurse on duty, weekly housekeeping with linens, three meals daily plus snacks , as well as access to optional tailored assisted living services, which can be added or removed as needed.
