Faithsearch Manages Senior Pastor Search For Seventh
FaithSearch Partners is pleased to announce its partnership with WholeLife Church and the Florida Conference of Seventh-day Adventists to assist with the Senior Pastor search. This church, formerly known as the Florida Hospital Church, is in Orlando, Florida, and has nearly 1,300 members. The church uses a vision frame concept that values love, acceptance, forgiveness, and grace to connect with people. Their mission is loving people into a lifelong friendship with God.
This Senior Pastor will succeed Dr. Andy McDonald, who is retiring after more than 35 years of service at WholeLife Church. The Church is next to AdventHealth Orlando and AdventHealth University. This Senior Pastor will provide overall leadership and direction to the other church pastors and staff and is accountable to the WholeLife Church Board.
We are excited to guide the Church through a search process to help them find a leader who will continue the amazing ministries Pastor Andy has helped start and nourish, said Doug Duffield, Senior Vice President at FaithSearch Partners. The new Senior Pastor will need to be a leader who prioritizes relationship building, creative thinking, and a strong emphasis on grace from the pulpit. A History Of Firsts At Advent Christian Village
Although Dowlings vision halted after his death in 1911, his legacy lived on through his pastor, Burr A.L. Bixler. In 1912, Bixler had received a letter from a dying widow asking if there was an American Advent Christian orphanage where her two sons could be raised in the faith she loved. Sadly, there was not, but the request provided inspiration for the idea of building such a home for both orphans and worn-out workers, or preachers, and their wives.
Thus, over a hundred years ago, a ministry of caring for orphans and senior adults was born in Dowling Park. In late 1913, five siblings, ages two to 10 years old, arrived from North Carolina to live in the newly-built orphanage known as the Advent Christian Home and Orphanage. In July of 1914, the first retiree, Elder Henry Smith from California, was admitted, followed in September by Elder and Sister Albert Gordon, fondly known as Grandpa and Grandma Gordon from Maine, firmly establishing Advent Christian Home and Orphanage as Floridas first retirement community.
Also in 1921, Thomas Dowlings dream of a campground came true, with the first camp meeting held in Dowling Park with worship services, sleeping and dining all taking place in tents. Carpenters also set to work on a new 25-room, three-story Home for the Aged, which included state-of-the-art innovations such as hot and cold water, lavatories, steam heat and push-button call bells in each room.

Floridas Oldest Place To Grow Old
Charles Moore says he must have heard about Floridas first retirement community when he was in the cradle in the late 1930s. His father loved reading the Present Truth Messenger, a newspaper of the Advent Christian Churchespecially the back-page Old Folks at Home section that offered updates about the denominations retirement community in Dowling Park, Florida, about 70 miles east of Tallahassee.
As far back as I can remember him, he used to say, When I retire, I want to go to the Advent Christian Village, 81-year-old Moore says. His father lived in the community for 21 years and, shortly after his death in 2002, Moore and his wife, Jenelle, decided they also wanted to move from their home in North Carolina to the village in Dowling Park. I didnt know of another retirement place in North Carolina or anywhere that was like this one, Moore says.
Saving Retirement
Moores story is not unique among the communitys members. May Virginia White, 85, is a third-generation resident. Laura Putnam, 84, a retired missionary to the Philippines, grew up hearing about the village through fifth-Sunday offerings her fathers church collected to support the ministry.
