Who Is T Rowe Price For
T. Rowe Price is best for long-term investors that want support in making their portfolio management and investment decisions, including planning for key life-events such as retirement and college costs. Individual and tax-advantaged retirement mutual fund accounts are T. Rowe Prices primary business, but you can still open a more traditional brokerage account. Higher net-worth individuals preferring a focus on individual stocks or access to separately managed stock accounts may want to look elsewhere. Active traders will definitely look elsewhere as T. Rowe Price has comparatively high trading costs and a platform that will not meet their needs.
-
Weak trading platforms and amenities such as charting
-
Higher costs, margin rates, and minimums than competitors
-
No foreign exchange, crypto currencies, or futures
-
Cumbersome account opening process
Why Consider This Fund
- You want the opportunity to remain in the same portfolio after the target date is reached
- You want one-step diversification with exposure to domestic stocks, international stocks and fixed-income securities
- You’ve considered your risk tolerance and want your asset allocation to become more conservative over time, but still provide growth after your retirement date to protect against longevity risk
- You want an actively managed asset allocation portfolio investing in actively managed underlying funds

For T. Rowe Price, FIS will assume responsibility for managing retirement technology development and core operations. As a result, about 800 T. The transitioning associates will remain in their current facilities in Owings Mills, Maryland, and Colorado Springs, Colorado, and continue to serve the T. Rowe Price account and clients.
Bill Stromberg, chief executive officer of T. Rowe Price, says that with the retirement plan recordkeeping business being dynamic and highly competitive, and following an extensive strategic review of the business, the company concluded that expanding its partnership with FIS would best accelerate the transformation of the business and support scalable growth for the long term.

Etf And Mutual Fund Screeners

The functionality of T. Rowe Price screeners for ETFs and mutual funds is identical to the stock screener, with the pre-defined screens specific to each security type. Again, the functionality is simple but it works well. For ETFs, the pre-defined screens are no transaction fee ETFs, equity funds focusing on value, equity funds focusing on growth, top performing low cost stock funds, low cost bond funds highly rated by Lipper, and general muni bond funds rated highly by Morningstar and have low expenses as rated by Lipper. For ETFs, the advanced screener has various category filters, including profile , performance, risk, holdings, analyst ratings, and technicals.
For mutual funds, the pre-defined screens are no transaction fee, taxable fixed income, global, large cap value, large cap growth, and specialty funds that include alternative asset classes and other strategies. The advanced search functionality and criteria are the same as the ETF screener. For more traditional T. Rowe Price mutual fund customers, there are more robust tools and functionality that can be used in conjunction with risk profile and portfolio building tools. T. Rowe Price funds can also be searched on the website without an account.

Terms Of T Rowe Price Proprietary Settlement Set
Its taken a while for the details to emerge, but we finally know the terms of a proprietary fund settlementcash and a plan design twist.
This suitfiled way back on Valentines Day, 2017involves allegations by a participant in its own plan , one David G. Feinberg, on behalf of the T. Rowe Price U.S. Retirement Program and all similarly situated Plan participants and beneficiaries , and all predecessor plans. The suit claimed that the T. Rowe Price plan fiduciaries breached their fiduciary duties by only offering T. Rowe Prices own in-house investment funds in its 401 plan, which the plaintiff claims provided a windfall to T. Rowe Price affiliates T. Rowe Price Associates, Inc. and T. Rowe Price Trust Company , collectively the TRP Investment Affiliates.
The settlement announcement was announced way back in July 2021, and came after Chief Judge James K. Bredar of the U.S. District Court for the Maryland rejected T. Rowe Prices bid for a pre-trial win back earlier last year, even as he evidenced skepticism about the merits of the caseif not the genre of such litigation altogether.
The Terms
That said, the proposed settlement provides significant relief to the Class, which in this case means:
Special Payment
Class Counsel Compensation
Other Expenses
It also references as a point of reasonability the $20,000 awarded to class representatives in the case involving John Hopkins University and its 403 plan.

How T Rowe Price Retirement Funds Work
T. Rowe Price Retirement Funds, a Target Date asset allocation option, are designed to take you through retirement.
The asset mix of each Portfolio is based on a target date. This is the expected year in which participants in a Portfolio plan to retire and no longer make contributions. A team of asset allocation professionals adjusts each Portfolios make-up over time to ensure a noticeable and steady shift from equities to fixed income in the years leading to retirement.
The T. Rowe Price Retirement Funds are composed of actively managed funds and are managed to help retain your potential for growth, and aim to preserve the value of your assets at and after retirement.
As each Portfolio glides over time, its asset mix is adjusted. Looking at the image below:
- Greater emphasis on aiming to provide an income stream in your retirement years
- Actively managed T. Rowe Price funds with broad diversification
- The Funds invest in a mix of equities and bonds that gradually becomes more conservative as the target Retirement Date nears
- At the target Retirement Date, the Funds allocation to stocks is anticipated to be approximately 55% of its assets
- The Funds exposure to stocks will continue to decline until approximately 30 years after its target Retirement Date, at which its allocation to stocks will remain at approximately 20% and the remainder will be invested in bonds

T Rowe Price Agrees To Settle Proprietary Funds Lawsuit For $7 Million
The lawsuit against T. Rowe Price had accused the firm of filling its retirement investment menu with proprietary funds.
T. Rowe Price has reached a preliminary settlement agreement with retirement plan participants to resolve a fiduciary breach claim brought against it under the Employee Retirement Income Security Act .
According to the motion for preliminary approval, T. Rowe Price has agreed to contribute $7 million into a qualified settlement fund. In addition to the monetary terms, the preliminary settlement includes a requirement that T. Rowe Price offer a brokerage window providing access for retirement plan participants to nonproprietary funds. The agreement requires court approval.
The class action settlement comprises all participants and beneficiaries in the T. Rowe Price U.S. retirement program who had a balance in a plan account at any time from February 14, 2011, through the date of entry of the order preliminarily approving the settlement, the memorandum of law states. The settlement agreement requires the defendants to make available to participants a brokerage window option for the duration of the settlement period and to permit plan participants to allocate all or a portion of their plan balances to investments provided through the brokerage window.
The defendants deny all allegations of wrongdoing and deny all liability for the claims in this action.
How This Broker Makes Money From And For You
T. Rowe Price has also joined the trend of offering no commission stock and ETF trading and, like others, payment for order flow plays a part. Although T. Rowe Prices disclosure about order routing pushes responsibility for order routing to their clearing firm, Pershing, clearly there is value to the order flow Pershing receives from T. Rowe Price and Pershing receives payment for order flow for all the orders it routes.
