The Virginian is a lovely community. A bit overpriced for what I consider Vintage 1980s aesthetics, but nevertheless a nice place for seniors to call home, with sweet people working there. Our dad finally decided on The Virginian after courting the idea of moving into a community for a couple of years. The rehab department is excellent 5-star rated as we know it. Will spare the details, but will say that we worked with Lauren, the social worker, who guided us through a pretty stressful time. The community has great nurses, too. We also worked with Alton in marketing for many weeks, who was so gracious to us, especially to my dad, and went the extra mile. Thanks! Sincerely, V.

Outbreak At Virginia Retirement Home Leaves 2 Dead Dozens Hospitalized
SPRINGFIELD, Va. Virginia health department officials say two people have died and 18 more have been hospitalized by a respiratory virus outbreak at a retirement community.
The Fairfax County Health Department says 54 of the 263 residents at the Greenspring Retirement Community in Springfield, Virginia, were exposed to the outbreak. Over the past two weeks, the ill residents displayed symptoms such as coughs, fevers, and pneumonia.
Fairfax County Director of Epidemiology Dr. Benjamin Schwartz told ABC7 that while respiratory outbreaks are not uncommon in assisted living facilities, this one has his full attention.
I think what stands out to me is the number of cases that have occurred in a fairly short period of time, says Dr. Schwartz.
Dr. Schwartz told ABC7 the first case hit June 30 with the bulk of illnesses coming over the weekend.
Health department officials say theyve quarantined sections of the building thought to contain the infection. Greenspring is not taking new residents as the outbreak is investigated.
Health department spokesman Benjamin Schwartz said the two patients who died had been hospitalized with pneumonia but were older individuals with complex medical problems.

Provider Response
Vicki:Thank you for your feedback. We are excited that 100% of our eligible residents and more than 80% of our staff have been vaccinated, which provides us among the highest overall level of vaccinations among senior living and long-term care communities. While we remain diligent in terms of COVID safety protocols, this in turn allows opportunities to continue to open to more activities, large and small, as well as visitors and off campus travel. While we understand the total cost of residency can appear significant, we have found our overall pricing to be very good compared to other Northern Virginia communities, and, as you indicate, do include nearly all day-to-day living expenses including meals, care, activities, housekeeping, maintenance, and utilities. We are very excited about the progress of our $56M renovation, which will modernize as well as substantially add to our amenities and features, which we hope your dad will enjoy!Thank you again for taking the time to post about our community.
